So far two episodes of Stephen Poliakoff\u2019s Close to the Enemy<\/em><\/a> have been broadcast. Tonight BBC 2 will show episode 3, of a total of seven. Up till now, the actor we\u2019ve seen most of is Jim Sturgess. In his role as intelligence officer\u00a0Callum Ferguson<\/em>, his task \u2013 and not an easy one \u2013 is to \u2018turn\u2019\u00a0Dieter Koeler<\/em> (August Diehl), a German engineer,\u00a0into working for the British on a jet engine.<\/p>\n

Eager to go on leave, \u2018rather overdue\u2019 after the Second World War has ended, Ferguson is certain he can handle his task, which comes in handy, since he is only given three weeks to do it.\u00a0Ferguson is pretty full of himself and arrogant throughout. (At least, I hope it is part of the role Jim Sturgess plays, and that it is not the actor\u2019s\u00a0personality shining through.) Sturgess developed his own technique: acting by leaning<\/strong>. Whether it is a doorpost or a pillar, we rarely see him standing straight.<\/p>\n
